Our Story
On the 23rd May 1993, a new shop opened in #39 Market Street in Ulverston, birthplace of Stan Laurel and now ‘Ulverston Photo Express’. Initially the shop was concerned with high quality Developing & Printing from the various film formats in 30 minutes hence the name. This was the brain child of David Pennick, who had recently graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business Administration and MA in International Marketing. However it was his passion for Photography which led him to open his shop after establishing a gap in the market.

This became an instant success, with services expanding rapidly to include Framing, Mounting, Photocopying, Camera Sales, Binocular Sales, Albums and even Sivoris Ice Cream which was a legacy of the previous occupiers freezer business with demand being so great that Photo Express continued to sell tubs of ice cream for a while.

Due to the success of the Ulverston shop, David decided to purchase a second store in Bowness-on-Windermere giving rise to ‘Bowness Photo Express’, taken over from an existing business (Bowness Prints). Doubling the turnover in the first twelve months and expanding the range on offer it was another great success. The small chain was incorporated on 22nd November 2002 to be become known as Photo Express (Lakeland) Ltd. At this time another Ulverston based business was established known as e-Directory which Photo Express had its first on-line presence through. However this proved to be ill fated and thus Photo Express launched their own website in 2003 and eBay store in 2005.

We have a massive range of Cameras, Lenses, Bags, Tripods, Night Vision & Thermal Imaging, Astronomical Telescopes, Smart Telescopes, Spotting Scopes, Binoculars and all the associated products. In addition we still print your favourite images in store from almost any media all the up to A1 size. We still do high quality Passport Photos, Laminating, Framing, Mounting, Video services, in fact just ask us, we probably do it.
